Model IoT Application For Tracking Kitchen Inventory

By Shyam Purkayastha | Internet of Things

What goes together better than the Internet and food? But there’s more to this delicious combination than just posting photos of last night’s meal on Instagram. Continuing our theme around the “Internet of Things,” we present another possibility from this game-changing technology. This time, it is a use case on IoT for inventory management. In this blog post, we’re going to use IBM Bluemix and PubNub to build an application that will transform any dumb kitchen by enabling automatic inventory tracking. You’ll never run out of bacon again!

Smart Garbage Bin Tracker using LoRaWAN

By Surya Igor | Internet of Things

Following my earlier post on Introducing the Microchip RN2483, I am writing this application blog post to showcase how LoRaWAN can be used for enabling waste management by means of a smart garbage bin. LoRaWAN provides long range wireless communication with ultra-low power consumption that enables very long battery life.

We built a proof of concept for garbage bin level tracking device, based on Raspberry Pi + Arduino Uno, and then optimized it further with a custom circuit to make a production grade bin level sensor(BLS) for smart city use cases. In this post, we will show you how you can quickly hack together a proof-of-concept of a functional smart garbage bin on Raspberry Pi using LoRaWAN. For more details about the custom BLS, please get in touch with us.

Build a Facilities Management IoT Chatbot with Azure IoT Hub

By Aravindan Chandrasekaran | Internet of Things

Managing thousands of IoT devices via a dashboard may not always be the most intuitive way. After all, who wants to scan through the clutter of a thousand different things and their notifications. In this blog post, we show you a unique approach to solve this problem through an IoT chatbot. Just like you chat with your co-workers, you can also chat with your devices, and they can respond back too.

Read on to know how a facilities management team interacts with the device/assets via a chat interface to make their maintenance chores easier and seamless.  This chat interface is powered by the Azure IoT Hub and PubNub.

Remote Control Raspberry Pi LED from Web Browser

By Aravindan Chandrasekaran | Internet of Things

One function that makes the Internet of Things the Internet of Things is remote control of devices, being able to trigger action from a remote location. This is otherwise known as remote configuration. Whether it’s a home, an office, or an industrial site, connected devices rely on some form of automation through sensors or machines and need a mechanism to control their operation remotely.

Beat the Rush Hour Traffic with Machine Learning using Tensorflow

By Shyam Purkayastha | Machine Learning

TensorFlow is one of Google’s flagship machine learning toolkits. Originally developed by researchers and engineers working on the Google Brain Team within Google’s Machine Intelligence research organization, Tensorflow found adoption in conducting machine learning and deep neural networks research. Subsequently, it was open sourced and is now available as a general purpose ML toolkit for a wide variety of applications. In this blog post, we will show you how to use the kNN routines of Tensorflow to solve a fundamental problem of city commuters, the traffic jams.
