Technology Glossary Term

In the context of cloud security, endpoint security refers to the security of the endpoints, the servers, databases, platform and networking services which host a cloud application.

Endpoint security for compute resources in the cloud focuses on securing the devices that manage, access, and run virtual machines (VMs), containers, and other compute instances. This includes securing the operating systems, applications, and services running on these instances to prevent unauthorized access, data breaches, and malicious activities.

Similarly for endpoints such as database, the same measures apply to securing the devices that host and manage database instances and data stored in the cloud.

Endpoint security measures may include implementing network segmentation and access controls to isolate and protect critical network assets, monitoring network traffic for signs of suspicious activity or intrusion attempts, and deploying intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS) to detect and block malicious network traffic.
